Animal Farm – George Orwell

Following one George Orwell book with another this week, with his classic Animal Farm. I’ve always meant to read this book but never got around to it, and I enjoyed Down and Out in Paris and London so much it seemed the next obvious thing. So far it’s been really enjoyable. I rarely read a book that I don’t enjoy. Of course sometimes it can take a long time to read a book, especially if it’s a slow burner or very dense prose but I still usually enjoy them. Have you ever read a book you didn’t enjoy?

Down and Out in Paris and London – George Orwell

I’m ashamed to say this was the first Orwell I’d read before! I absolutely loved it though, especially his description of working as a ‘plongeur’ in Paris, some of the characters he describes in vivid detail are just fabulous. I’ve ordered Animal Farm which I’m very much looking forward to reading, and also Brideshead Revisited and The Unbearable Lightness of Being as part of a 3 for 2 offer at Green Metropolis. Do you have any recommendations for books I should be reading?

Apologies for the hiatus, I was caught up in graduate scheme applications and university work. Unfortunately this means I am also 2 books down on my book a week target for 2010. I’ve decided that to make things easier, I don’t have to read a book every clear week, for example some books might take a little longer and others can be read in a couple of days. Just as long as I’ve read 52 by the end of the year that will still be OK. So glad the sun is out and shining, it makes everyone a little lighter on their feet don’t you think?

This was a great book I picked up for 49p (can you believe they sell books that cheap!) from The Works. It was a slow burner, but a good one that made me think a lot about family, and love and how things can change. Highly recommended.
